    For The Record:

The track "I'm Beaming" that was leaked last night was NOT authorized or intentionally leaked by myself or my company.
Plain and simple its STOLEN property. And this goes for ANY record or track that leaks or is made available for illegal download from this day forward.
Actions are being taken and the authorities have been notified.

As a personal plea to all my fans PLEASE DO NOT share, stream, or download any unauthorized or stolen Lupe Fiasco music.

A lot of time and energy goes into the creation of this music, not to mention large sums of money, money provided by my record company as well as from my own personal finances. My music is the product of my life. It means so much to me. I take pride in it and i also take pride in how it changes peoples lives and gives them hope. So to see it treated in this manner really numbs the soul. So many of my family and friends rely on me for their well-being and I rely on my music to give me the opportunities that allow me to provide for them.

So this one i'm taking personal. And I will do ALL that is in my power and my circle of influence to make sure that the persons directly or even remotely responsible for this and any future events involving the piracy and illegal distribution and solicitation of my music will be brought to justice and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Both criminally as well as civilly.

With the history that surrounds the devastating and massive piracy of my first album i'm sure some of you can understand why this very harsh stance that is being taken up. And for those of you unsympathetic enough not to understand i can only compare it to someone breaking into your house and stealing everything not tied down or someone kidnapping you sister or brother and ransoming them back to you. A deep sense of helplessness. I hope you never have to feel this and i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy.

    Happy Holidays...

Oh lord. I had no idea, but then again I should've known. Hell, I know I'll be buying the single when it's released AND the CD when ever it drops. :)

I'd rather download your album and send you the money directly. In fact, I nearly approached you at a concert a few years ago to give you the money directly (I chickened out). I understand that it takes an extensive investment from record companies to produce albums, but I also understand the poor contracts usually inherent in record deals. I also think the RIAA is full of shit. I'm not justifying piracy, necessarily, but what I AM saying is that I'd prefer to send you money directly and continue doing what I am doing. I am a fan. I am going to support you, regardless. Not because I feel an ethical obligation, but because I am a fan -- I am a collector of your music because you make music that demands respect and reciprocity from your fans. It's the intermediaries that cause a problem for me. It bothers me that the largest percentage is going to go to a company that is strictly concerned with the bottom line, and NOT the artist. I only care about the distribution company in as much as they facilitate me having access to your music. If there was a direct download link on your website, believe me, I would consistently explore that option. Now, being an artist myself, I understand the time and seemingly endless energy that goes into producing a valuable product. And I also understand that it sucks when people steal your work. But, I also can see clearly that people do not steal your work to overtly disrespect you. They are going to constantly explore the most accessible venue. In other words, a lot of us are Lupe junkies. If we hear your voice over a beat, we can't help but look behind the curtain. People are not kidnapping because they want to hurt you. They kidnap because of the flawed nature of the record industry. The people who download your music are not criminals. They are fans and people interested in what you have to offer. They are also people that see a crippled structure -- a house with a broken door inviting them in to kidnap. I will buy your music.

Im sorry Lupe that you song was leaked, I had to hear it though, its on Youtube now, but I gotta say I love it man, I dont know who is leaking your music but f*** them. LASERS will be amazing, and I will buy it just because it is a Lupe album

Btw, once I realized the error of my ways a couple of years ago, I went out & purchase Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor from Best Buy. Not a promo for them but that's actually where I buy most of my CDs should I feel the need to own a physical copy. Most of my purchases come from iTunes. -"Ayo Technology"- Please do the right thing & show your appreciation for your favorites buy purchasing their music. Start there then we could discuss actually going to shows & buying merchandise. Baby steps people... Baby steps. Let's do it! Peace! Post Script - I'd also like to add that Lupe Fiasco is INCREDIBLE! I'm definitely a fan.

I could be quoted from past interviews how I've stated THE last album I've 'downloaded'/'ripped'/(my personal favorite term because it was made to sound so unassuming) 'SHARED'/...a.k.a. STOLE was Lupe Fiasco's Food & Liquor. This was around the time I was approximately a month into working on my own debut album The Death of Adam. All of a sudden it had occurred to me that I was contributing to the downfall of not only great (or "real") hip hop music & culture but just the music entertainment business in general. From that day forward I never again illegally downloaded ANY artists' music. I've actually gone as far as refuse to take anybody's music unless it was coming from the artist(s) themselves OR a person who actually has the authority to give up the goods (i.e. promotions dept. at a record label). For instance, once word got out that Guilty Simpson shared a slot alongside of Lupe Fiasco on my Top 10 Favorite Rap Artists, fans of mine who have my iChat/AIM screen name repeatedly tried to send me Guilty's album (Ode To The Ghetto)... Approximately FOUR MONTHS BEFORE IT'S RELEASE DATE. These people claimed to be fans of his & assured me that his album was tight but I would rather discover that on my own whilst REALLY being a fan by commending him for his work by way of a purchase. I actually had to explain to people why all this "sharing" stuff was wrong. It's like voting people; you put your favorite (President Obama) in office by actually voting for him. Not by telling your friends about him & hope THEY make it to the polls. Think of your favorite artist whom you're SO upset that they don't get any-to-enough radio play as President Obama. Now think of a major radio station (let's say Hot 97 [NY stand up]) as The White House or the Oval Office. NOW think of actually purchasing your fave's music via iTunes, Best Buy, etc. as going out & casting your vote on an official ballot. See how this all adds up? Economy IS tough right now but $13 for a CD which is worth it.

I understand where Lupe is coming from with this but i ask him in all honesty has he ever Illegally downloaded music and i bet the answer would be yes.Ii guess Lupe has to get a meeting place to exchange the ransom for that artists brother or sister. Did you ever worry about the artist when you were downloading there music?. I don't blame you for being upset about this but you can't expect me to really sympathize with you when you are threatening legal action against anyone remotely involved with the piracy of your music when you yourself illegally downloaded music. oh and you're still in my top 15
Gramitoz's picture

lol i wouldn't say it compares to a sibling and/or family member being kidnapped...its fucked up, sure. Do fans like music being put out....yes.

Lupe i heard the song. and its fire as always. i'm a huge fan and im not gonna lie, when F&L leaked i downloaded it, but when the album actually dropped i went out and bought it too; the same with The Cool. i have every single one of ur mixtapes, revenge of the nerds to enemy of the state. You are such an influential and inspiring artist and i cant wait for the album sometimes man. i listen to your music and you might have a line or a metaphor that directly correlates to how im feeling or what im going thru in my life. Lupe you are my favorite artist and true fans will always support you. as long as you keep making albums i will continue to BUY them. dont let this leak get you down.
welldoneslick's picture

Lupe, to lose something important to you is a horrible feeling man. All the people commenting on how you should be happy about it because of pliability or just get over it obviously aren't feeling you. My mom told me that people feel like others owe them something now. How can people tell you what to do with your music. It's as if people want to justify themselves and they can't do that with something that isn't theirs. You owe no one an explanation but the fact that you did meant you put enough effort into it for US (because isn't that who the music is for) that you'd rather we get it when we are suppose to.

F&L got leaked like a mother f***er. Tha's what happened.
Atheal's picture

what happened with the food and liqour incident?
barcasauga's picture

I dunno If Lu shoulda used those examples persay, but i definitely see where he's coming from... I'm pretty sure he doesn't want another food and liquor incident...this is more of a "see a small leak and plug it as quickly as possble before it overflows" type situation and strategy imo...it was a bit extreme but I think that will definitely minimize the extent of any possible future leaks... but ppl need to realize...if an artist WANTS a song leaked...its ok....if they don't...then those are the situations that can lead to actions like this and after multiple times it can escalate to this.... again...not prime examples used but good on him to address it....and he isn't exactly like other artists....they may not mind their stuff getting leaked but lu isn't them (apparently) so he has the right to protest against this can't wait for lasers and 2010...gunna be an EXTRA DOPE year for all music
SolarMidnite's picture

Aye lu...Fuck the bullshit mane, but you spit some truth and there is some of them who cant wait, because of the truth you talk.... Dont take the leaks personal.. but you have people who you've touch spiritually and made an impact on, with you're music! I know im buying a couple copies of Lasers, and showing up at concerts. BUT WHOSE SIDE ARE YOU REALLY ON? Fame and money only last for a second(to Mars).. Dont Mislead us!!! THE KNIGHT ONLY SHINES BECAUSE OF THE LIGHT! But in the end we all die, and which would you rather do??? DESTROY HUMANS OR REBUILD(the right way)?
howe's picture

This is nothing like your examples, Lupe. If something from my house is stolen, do I get it back? Will I make money off of my possessions? No. And to even compare a "stolen" song to the kidnapping of a sibling is completely and utterly ridiculous. Stop crying over spilled milk, you will still make a pretty penny over it. Did I listen to the song? Yes. Did I like it? Yes. Will listening to it early deter me from purchasing your album? No. On the contrary, this adds to the excitement I already possessed.

don't worry Lu, even when it did leak, i never attempted to listen to it & even with the great praise I've heard about it so far, still won't. FNF & Chicago to the end

No Disrespect what-so-ever Lu,I definitely feel u on this issue. But a while back I ran into THIS article about artists showing snippets and having their work of art[which is what you make] illegally copied and even though it has its opinions and one-sided arguments I believe it sums up the whole situation and the fact that people are interested in your music and the effortlessness that the great internet provides all of us along with the widespread access in my honest opinion means that this type of thing will not only keep happening but increase in occurrence. As an avid listener to any and all Good Music, I own all Fahrenheit 1/15 Mixtapes BTW both studio[mainstream] albums and eagerly awaiting L.A.S.E.R.S. ever since hearing Shining Down quite a while back and L-U-P-End too that aside I must say that ANY new material Leaked either by You or Not I zealously devour so I can understand your frustration but also know that upon hearing the new material it merely reinforces my already made up mind of Purchasing Your Magnum Opus.So to wrap up I believe its a double-edged sword with that said I hope you understand where we're coming from.Thank you for your time and here is the link to the article in case the hyperlink didn't work. http://www.newmusicstrategies.com/2008/04/03/should-i-be-worried-about-piracy/ DJ TRU

Sorry what happened to your song being leaked Lupe, but i haven't heard it or even knew it was leak. But hopefully the true fans will not download it and I know I won't. I don't why people are complaining about the mixtape, he have to be prepared to climb a mountain, so it's understanding. I think at times, as fans, I think we try to get too much out of person or ask for too much. Just be thankful for the music he has given us and patiently wait on the L.A.S.E.R.S. to come out!!! Much Love, Deneshia
nIANja909's picture

yeh I'm so sure Lupe's being taken advantage of sooo much, he's gonna have to live on the streets begging for change -_- As it is, Artists in the entertainment industry get paid well over what they deserve for their work. He is being compensated just fine for the albums he sells, took dude 2 years to put together 1 album, and he will make more then what most people who work hard nearly everyday make in years, without putting in half the effort they do. Trust me, he is getting his dues, just that's what happens when you go mainstream and you do it for the money, you expect too much. Just imagine all the artists who don't go mainstream, and just make the music they wanna make for hardly anything, not even those guys complain about their s*** getting leaked comparing it sibling kidnapping lawlz. And they don't make a fraction of what Lu makes, and they work twice as hard as dude. shit, there are artists releasing LP's and EP's for FREE, and Lupe acts like it's a favor to us he releases a mixtape for nothing lool. He has a right to be unhappy with his music being leaked, but jeez, stop being so dramatic already.

Lupe is right, Reza losers like you dont produce to know what it is like having your invention/product or hard labor stolen. I hope someone steals your hardearned money from your bank account then we will see if it is fun having what is YOURS stolen.
Reza's picture

Hes such a hippocrate .. he used to say that he thought his own music wasnt great and now he struts around tinkin hes the greatest . And i used to think he was " real " ... -_- * Bumps Vanity (Death Of A Star) (Pt.1) "
wire28's picture

ninja is spitting real talk some of you fans need to evaluate what you say i bought both the albums and im gonna buy lasers but im not gonna blindly listen to whatever lupe tells me, a real fan can admit when they fav artist goes over board kidnapping your sibling? really? good luck on the climb and on gettin whoever leaked it but be chill, really
nIANja909's picture

lol, I was thinking the same thing Reza.
Reza's picture

Lu cancels his mixtape and tells everyone to relax and says :" its only music "... then one song leaks and he says " My music is the product of my life. It means so much to me. I take pride in it and i also take pride in how it changes peoples lives and gives them hope. So to see it treated in this manner really numbs the soul. So many of my family and friends rely on me for their well-being and I rely on my music to give me the opportunities that allow me to provide for them" pffftttttttt
