Greed maybe? I mean my name brings traffic to sites. Now whether the amount of traffic is small or massive doesn't matter. It all translates into "impressions" which once accumulated translates into money. Impressions mean money. Money from advertisers and investors. So to be clear the equation crudely looks like this:

artists and all that surrounds them (good or bad, gossip worthy or uninteresting) = traffic = impressions = money!

Or what about just plain old honest phoniness, fakery & falsehood?...I mean thats what RUNS our industry...a lil money here and a lot of phoniness over there....all kept quietly under a smiley face until you leave the room and they got what they want out of you and then before you can even get to the elevator its fuck that nigga!...I mean to NEVER had liked someone means you didn't like them from the beginning...like from day one...to be safe lets say 2005...and how many times have I been in XXL under your reign? or how many posts have I had on RAPRADAR.COM since then?...hmmm...somebody somewhere is faking the funk...but hey thats how its is from the STREETS to the BOARDROOM...niggaz do fake shit all the time to get things done but niggaz dont ever NEVER wanna be called out as fakes or when they are on their phoney behavior especially when KEEPING IT REAL or REALNESS is the status quo and such a reputable status to have & maintain...so maybe someone is just being dishonest with themselves and needs to have a INTERNAL REALITY CHECK so they can just do the things that that person wants to do in full honesty & harmony with themselves...you know?...truth shall set ya free....

Ok what about public pressure?...pressure from the public...the public pressuring you to do something that you dont necessarily want to do or agree with for the sake of remaining in good favor or status with the public. Thats what runs the industry too...Customer is king and you are a servant to the public. That is such a position of great responsibility. So i hope that if some small cross section of the public humbly comes to request you NOT post anymore Lupe Fiasco material that the reaction to this public demand will be as eloquent and responsible as "I'll pass. The thing is he could have just not even bothered with the post and put the music up...being that it's what the "young bucks" want. Why waste your energy on someone who you don't think is that great. Why not post something positive about someone you actually like...and promote them. The thing is negativity is contagious...and there are so many "haters" (This has got to stop! I hate using that term...I need to find another way to say what I'm trying to say in 2010) and they feed off of each other like parasites...slowly making their way through their host. (Google: Monsters Inside Me) Gotta eat!

I don't subscribe to the train of thought that you, Lupe, are mainstream. The music you create speaks volumes, the lyricism and wordplay along with balancing the line between being a real musician and an entertainer is truly incredible... this coming from a lyricist and producer. Must've been a bitch getting that right deal so you could share your music with the world... it's only natural you'll have haters talkin' shit and not realizing the work someone like Lupe has to put in before they are even considered. I think it's disingenuous to think your supposed to be a gimmick like Top 40 radio... You basically summed it up like this: Unstrap him from his chair and put him back in his cage/

Ha! Lupe is distinguished from all those boring hip-hop artist!! I like his music because it allows me to think!! and makes me feel open to what he says!

Before I read this, I was unaware of the Rap Radar blog. I tried to learn more about them but the "About RR" section was blank. And that is the crux of the matter: that I sought a deeper understand, a thing too many consumers fail to do.

Well, the argument then becomes what is truly "The Customer"? How much of "The Customer" is manufactured by those who are faking interest --- manipulating impressions, rather, generating impressions to affect the customer and move them into thinking that the manufactured impression is a true representation of what is "real". This in turn is assimilated by the customer and then becomes their impression, their feelings. All along they believe it is what they originally felt, or what others were feeling. I've encountered this in the literature world, this fakeness. Also in music, too. People make tracks with, or tour and do poetry readings, all along hating your very existence but faking community on the surface to gain what you have to offer ---- the fact you connect with people. And they dislike this. Not solely that you connet with people, but by way of however you do it, it doesn't fit within their structure of how something should be. I think that small window, those structures which are socially embedded in us not as birth, but as we age, are the root of so much turmoil in this world man, it is ridiculous. I dig your music and I say FUCK 'IM.... for now, until things change.

Maybe he's doing it to get even more traffic from using your name, but with a radical negative twist that will bring in two groups of people, those who agree with him, and those that disagree with him. And by getting you to post this, he's gone and added a whole lot more traffic too, when it comes to the internet, or any other platform from which a business can be built, it is always about the money. ALWAYS.

"I'd rather listen to an ATQC (sic) record over a Lu album any day as well... Not that it is even relevant to the discussion really." It's cleverly relevant - http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1571748/20071011/fiasco__lupe.jhtml

@Revenge That is exactly what I'm trying to say. And since when was Rap Radar or YN authoritative sources on your potential as an artist? At the end of the day, they simply represent amateur media; the hip hop blogosphere is too unfathomably broad to interpret as a critical threat to any self-conscious emcee. You should only feel insulted (or in a position to defend yourself as in this post) when a fellow rapper of equal or higher stature attacks your character. Internets is not serious business.

Hehe, I don't know why this put a smile on my face...You're so intelligent. People in this industry will build you up for a moment then tear you down the next second.

maybe the "OG" is stuck in the past...perhaps even stuck in his own ways..."greed" is definitely the primary cuase of phoniness, fakeness, its selfish and mainly unloyal..boy does unloyalty eerk me to the core but honestly i could care less about what he thinks aswell as what anyone thinks in a negative pattern about me and my interests..those are the ones not of my flock..I dont think lupe is letting this stuff get the best of him, he is simply venting in an assertive manner, if he turns around and starts dogging woman and talking about selling and killing , then they will like him, or will they just have something else to talk about, either way the industry is a completely different world, so therfor you should just continue along with three things, faith, hope, and charity, again in life we will be forced to accept evaluations of ourselves, what god thinks of us,what the devil thinks of us, what others think of us, and what we think of ourselves,it is important to know who you are and who god is to you. peace ~shelz

Lupe your getting way to caught up in this nonsense. I agree with everything theMotif said above, but does anybody think Lupe is doing this for publicity? Its obivious Lu is underrated, so I think he's taking the "any press is good press" route. When your music should speak for itself, but it doesn't, then I think you take other measures to get the attention that one desires.

My two cents: totally agree with you. Rapradar's about what's popular and money-making, more than good music. 2dopeboyz is the top rap blog on my list. But your response to 'I'm Beaming' leak was wack dude. Maybe that's what prompted the YN to go off on you. A couple things: There's a blog called Torrentfreak that you should read. It's all about piracy and the many failed attempts by institutions to fight it. I understand being disappointed with a leak and saying so. Comparing it to someone being kidnapped? Demanding people delete the song, calling it 'stealing' over and over? Calling for prosecution? Wtf. You sound like the record labels you're criticizing in the post here. Especially since you've got the anarchist symbol all over the LASERS album branding. Anarchists oppose coercive hierarchies, especially government and capitalism. Are you just appropriating the imagery cuz it looks cool? That's some dumb shit, not like you. I get the feeling you dropped anarchist-inspired lines in the 'enemy of the state' mixtape - and there's the title, obviously. The LASERS manifesto was good. What happened to that? "I'm Beaming" is a badass song - I've had it on repeat all day, singing the chorus wherever I go. It's not going to disappear off the Internet now. Only sensible thing to do is embrace it, ask your fans to spread the word, build buzz for the album. Also, if you're an anarchist or you think they have decent ideas, please make it clear. We need a broader spectrum of political thought in this country and your voice is important to young folks like us... Good luck on the climb man. Keep up the awesome work. It's great you're blogging and engaging with the fans and critics. Can't wait for the album.

Don't worry about them Lupe. It's a fact that 65% of the music in the hip-hop genre is garbage anyway(this is not a fact). Lupe is one of the few "smart" rappers, whom can speak on a topic that could relate to many people. But none of this irrelevant Bullshit will affect the quality of his next LP. So it doesn't matter if he comments on the matter; he has the right too do so. That's just my opinion though.
TheKidBrendan's picture

This guy is a fool.I still cant believe what he wrote about Lupe. Just because Lupe hasn't had mainstream success with his songs (besides superstar and daydreaming), that doesn't mean anything. Lupe never raps about half the things all these other rappers speak about in their songs.Girls, being a true thug, money. Its the same stuff with them every time. But each of Lupe's songs have true meaning. That's why he's the king. Nobody is like him. He's not some big muscly rapper like what every other rapper is trying to be. He's climbing a mountain, LOL. He doesn't act like all these other rappers. That's why hes unique, because he's different. A true legend. A Lyrical genius.

Lupe has 2 classics, but so does ye, dude is trippin, forget the hating blogs use it as fuel for the fire, now adyas its hard to have an artist stay true and not jump outside themselves to do what they think is hot right now. Look at music period the greats do music that they love not garbage to appease what media and the world think they should....drop the album asap....
themotif's picture

Oh, and as for striking a balance between mainstream appeal and core-fanbase appeasement — don't. I don't listen to you because you're popular. I listen to you because you're dope. Make the music that makes you.
themotif's picture

Lupe. Climb the mountain and release Lasers. You're getting way too caught up in political bullshit and it's chipping away at your credibility in the eyes of any self-respecting fan. Stop reading websites. Stop adopting a holier-than-thou stance on piracy — leaks are a natural part of the musical process and you and whomever is responsible for the intellectual property should be proactive instead of reactive. Stop focusing on blunt comparisons between yourself and other emcees. And stop being so frustratingly contradictory in your tirades and milder commentaries.
bayboy8806's picture

Lupe is on a higher echelon than half the people who even try to listen to his stuff. This is a classic example of a quote I heard once "To foolish men, the wise appear to be foolish men"... because people don't understand... they hate. Its like some lopsided awkward form of jealousy. Since they too dumb to understand it, its GOT to suck, lol. Kanye has no "classics" I'll just leave that at that. But someone put it right earlier, if Lupe really wants to "prove" he is the best. He has to appeal to the people who like everyone he is trying to prove himself better than. These 2nd grade competent rappers, with a kindergarten competent audience. In order to TRULY do that, Lupe would have to "Dumb It Down" and he already said... he flatly refuses. I am eager to see how an educated rapper can appeal to the mindless drones who listen to the rap on the radio. If Lupe can do it, it would surprise me. More power to you Lupe! PS - like someone said down there, no way this guy is gonna understand your comeback... he's gonna read this post of yours and be like "Huh? Is he talking trash, somebody come translate this for me!" lol
lupelover_bmore's picture

Wow Lu I'm with you on this one. If you are so unliked and have been since your beginnings then why make money off you...what self respecting business man would distribute what his equivalent of garbage is tob his consumer? If you don't believe in your product because of what it's made of then the truth will be revealed and the true you will be exposed and that's exactly what happened in this situation
