ORRRRRRRR we could all be right and thats the greatness of it

The first guy rapping is actually Lupe trying to hypnotize you into the song bc that's how into it you need to be to understand what he's trying to do. I like my way of thinking of it how it's th same person with an inner conflicting personality disorder or something. It just makes Lupe seem even greater to me. And when you think about it, he would do some shit like that and get real deep into another persons mind lol I mean look at handcuffs...he makes u feel like ur in the guys mind. And in this case he takes it a step further by putting you into the mind of someone crazy. Idk that's how I like to think of it lol

Another listen after reading this interpretation changes the whole song for you. Definitely one of my favourites.

I saw an interpretation of this track on the internet that opened my eyes to it.

It's actually 4 people. With four different rapping styles; the hypnotist sloow guy at the beginning and ending, the one with the short phrases that's kinda like the educated and good one, the rapid fire Twista-like mack; and also the slower aggressive thug.

I think they're the four dimensions of Lupe's characters in his music. It gets really interesting the part where he goes "did he hatin'? did he hatin'? what, what? Did he haate" Like, he just switched between the flows real fast and very subtly. All the four characters were having one thought, and interestingly enough, that one thought is the reaction of the listener after the rather provocative line preceding it.

yup. it also makes sense because its on food and liquor and the reason for the tittle was that there was good and evil in everything and food represents good and liquor the bad

hmmm interesting didnt think of it like that, i was too caught up with how innovative that track was as is..lol

that was actually my second guess! kinda like his concsience talking to him. the good he wants to do but also the materialistic things his evil side wants

here's a new theory.


WHat if the song is a man. who is faced with the decisions of good and evil? like the devil and angel on his shoulders. And the man was lupe fiasco growing up in a bad neighborhood,and a well raised happy home.
