London, Jan 5 : A British mayor has confessed to stealing womens underwear after a womans camera caught him in the act.

The footage shows Ian Stafford, the twice-elected mayor of Preesall and Knott End, entering a womans bedroom, searching her drawers and taking out a pair of knickers to wear, reports the Telegraph.

The 59-year-old bachelor then performed a sex act and left the building.

Cops later recovered the stolen collection of underwear from his home.

The woman, who set up the camera, was one of three Stafford targeted between January 1 and June 26 last year.

She got the camera after finding some of her underwear missing.

Two other women had also told the police about the disappearance of their undergarments.

Stafford stole the items while working as a part-time gardener and pleaded guilty to three counts of burglary before the Preston Crown Court.

The case was adjourned until February 5.

Judge Philip Sycamore told Stafford, who resigned from his post after his arrest, not to draw any conclusions about his sentence.

He said: All sentencing options are open.
