my point is, Lupe could literally place ANY of his heavily Word-Play laced verses as replacements for these verses, and it wouldn't make a difference, at all.
Now, if Lupe was saying in his lyrics with the theme of the song in mind "I don't dumb it down/(some simile/wordplay stuff blah blah)" then that'd mean his lyrics are actually ABOUT and or connected to the theme.
But as it stands, they are two separate entities, that are connected ONLY by the nature of the verse, and the hook. And again, the verses could be replaced with anything and it wouldn't make a difference at all.
"Sorry bro, but that is just some Stans over-active imagination going to work on that shit. Which should have been apparent from the breakdown of the very first 2 words in the track. How do you get a 7 word analysis of the first 2 words of a track lol. I mean really."
^^ I agree, I read that on the old atlantic boards too. I've always said if you try really hard enough you could a make connection with anything. You should see the people making illuminati references on his Popular Demand freestyle smh.

"Didn't I already say that the only way the verses connect with the theme is that they are semi-complicated (to some) in nature? And I went on to say ... certainly that breakdown of the lyrics is beyond an over exaggeration."
^^ Not entirely true, throughout all three verses he describes features of himself (I'm eyeless, I'm mouthless, I'm brainless, etc), rferences back to earlier verses and like you said maintains that lyrical complexity. I don't know why you say there isn't any connection to the chorus or theme of the song, maybe you are looking too specifically, because on the broader scale the song represents exactly what he's saying. It's a manifestation of intellectual lyricy, not 'dumbing it down', what is essentially emphasized throughout the entire track. It's heavy wordplay clever lines and complicated metaphors all in an abstract form (and don't bash me on 'intellectual lyricy', think Nas lol). I understand where you're coming from when you say 'It's gibberish', but I feel like you're letting yourself lose sight of the big picture.
And the same for your last post. It's true his style is unique and different from most but that doesn't make him any less of a lyricist. You make it seem like it's easy, but there's a reason why he's selling millions of records and me or you aren't lol. He's extremely good - and no stannery. Lupe might be my favorite rapper but that doesn't mean I gas up everything he does, I just recognize talent when I see it.
Sleep.
How many times has this conversation taken place? Seriously lol
If you don't already know the story, haven't made your own breakdown nor participated in one, then there's really no argument, haha =)
And by the way, thanks earlier for re-enforcing my argument that a lot of the praise he gets comes from the fact that not much can be compared to what he does, therefore it's not so much that he's an exceptional lyricist, but rather, that with nothing to compare or reference his work to, it's automatically considered the best of it's kind.
And it's not entirely that he's that great quality of a rapper, but he's just too different to compare.
Didn't I already say that the only way the verses connect with the theme is that they are semi-complicated (to some) in nature?
And I went on to say, if I'm no mistaken (which I never am), that beyond that Lupe's lyrics themselves have no direct connection to the chorus or the theme of the song. And certainly that breakdown of the lyrics is beyond an over exaggeration.
Thats an unconventional infered reference on your part Luwhoelse, not that conventional is the right way I'm saying that just because his lyrics are complex (like they usually are) doesn't mean that coincides with the chorus.
@ Ninja man
Your initial argument was that the verses in the song had nothing to do with the hook. The verses of the song are complex. That reinforces the concept behind the hook. It's that simple. What is there else to understand. I don't care if he talks about cows and pigeons. If the lyrics are complex that means he is referring to his unwillingness to dumb it down.
End of discussion.
I'm quizzing you, not looking to downplay your argument... what do you think that verse has to do with the chorus of the song? True there is an unconventional infered meaning but I'm asking as a whole, does that verse have fluidity with the meaning of the song/chorus.
Sorry bro, but that is just some Stans over-active imagination going to work on that shit. Which should have been apparent from the breakdown of the very first 2 words in the track. How do you get a 7 word analysis of the first 2 words of a track lool. I mean really.
But seriously, that breakdown is from the older Lupe boards we used to go to, which I'm not sure if maybe they got it from somewhere before then but that's what I remember it from almost 2 years ago.And it's just as much an over analysis then as it is now.
But then again, when you are so imaginative and creative, you can make ANYTHING make sense in your own mind amirite?
Now what does that have to do with him Dumbing it Down? not being a smart ass I'm just asking a question because our point is that Dumb it Down isnt a cohesive song, lyrical? yes, metaphors? check, Classic? no. Just because of the potency of the rhymes are there that doesn't make it excellent.
P.S. you run faster with pistols than you do carrying any other weapon in the game
I'm fearless (hes brave enough to battle his critics)?
Now hear this
I'm earless (He dosent hear their hating)?
And I'm peerless (He has no peers in the industry, he feels no one is lyrically on his level)
That means I'm eyeless (so he dosent see them)?
Which means I'm tearless (he dosent care what they say, so their hating dosent harm him)?
Which means my iris resides where my ears is
Which means I'm blinded (He hasnt heard anything good lately, so his senses must be failing)
But I'ma find it I can feel it's nearness (There are good rappers out there, and their close by, he just has to find them)
But I'ma veer so I don't come near (staying in his own lane, He sticking to his guns as a lyricist and not conforming to commercial music)
Like a chicken or a deer (how chickens and deers dont come near)
But I remember I'm not a listener or a seer so my windshield smear (Fans that listen and watch modern commercial music would think he doesnt know what hes doing because he s not going multi platinum , Does he not hear or see whats hot right now?)
Here, you steer, I really shouldn't be behind this, clearly cause my blindness (I guess thoes, fans have better vision than me as what type of artist I should be)
The windshield is minstrel, the whole grill is road kill, so trill and so sincere. Yeah, I'm both them there (So trill, gangsta and street/commercial, So sincere Real hip hop purist, Hes both)
Took both pills, when a bloke in a trench coat and the locs in the chair had approached him here - (continuing the line above with a Matrix reference, he both the in real and the fake realms ( like a commercial underground artist) ?
Made it clear as a ghost, so a biter of the throats in the mirror-(referring to vampires)
The writer of the quotes for the ghosts who supplier of the notes to the living (He is the guy that inspires(quotes) ghost writers that write(notes) for more rappers )
Don't sit here on your computers desks and say that dumb it down is overrated when 97% of hip hop is overrated. There isn't a rapper that could write like lupe so it's not an overrated song. If a something is overrated that means there is something else out there that is better than it. There isn't a song that you can compare dumb it down to so therefore it is not overrated. It is in it's own place and as a result it is praised.
I'm all about pistols. Nothing better then putting a nigga in his place with the weakest weapon in the entire game. It messes with their mental. Not even trash talk stings that much.
That's one thing I always loved about Rainbow six though. Headshots. No other game quite got that down like Rainbow. No better feeling then coming around a corner and laying a dude out at short-medium-long with a perfectly placed Usp .45 shot to the dome =)
Lol I havent heard d.i.d for a while, and I used to think it was all connected to dumb it down etc, but then i read what these lads were sayin on the old boards n heard what lupe had to say about then realised.
Its still a good song though, and deep.
And I still play Rainbow Six online, one off Elite lol
Battlefield is still my shooter of choice right after Rainbow Six. I used to play G.R.A.W. though.
But as far as outdoor expanded environment warfare, Battlefield no doubt, can't wait til Bad Company 2. And Rainbow Six is the best tactical shooter, though I haven't been on in a while, Tom Clancy games are like crack to me.
