Man Lupe aint lacking shit in my eyes, "how im gonna school him when he grew up wit my teachers" lol nah 4/real tho, the lack of emotion is actually what got me hooked becuase its like a "to be continued" kinda thing or wow, what does that mean?. he is mysterious, And challenges our minds, which is great. I could/would never ask him to change anything, except ofcourse to bring his ass to cleveland so i could get a full concert, who cares if they are all gucci fans here, if i got to be the only one up there singing every word i know then so be it. hahahahaha

I don't think that personally emotional connection, whatever that means, is a missing trait nor is it something that makes an artist an artist. An artist doesn't have to necessarily talk about himself or herself or the things around them. It's just choice. I don't believe that you NEED that personal story in order to be connected with people. I think what's important is that the person who's talking is being honest and can take responsibility for what that person says. I think Lu just needs to exude that more instead of concerning himself with everyone else. I can't say that with full confidence however because I haven't been following what he's been doing for a while but regardless, I think he needs more of that. I know that's a kind of subjective thing, to require honesty, but I think music listeners and the like know when the artists that they love are being truthful about their words. You know how all that shit goes, "write what you know", "say what you mean"...

welll...Lupe fiasco does have an Gemini ascendant.(.likes to avoid emotional confrontation whenever possible..) ascendant and sun in Aquarius..(most detached, unemotional astrological sign)..these are both air signs, can't be so personally i don't think its surprising how someone could arrive to that conclusion..that his music lacks emotional communication..that may be so..but i know he's definitely not lacking in human compassion..and i hope people aren't confusing the 2 :p (not saying that i know him or anything lmao, astrology was the first thing that popped into mind , just couldn't help myself. :))

Actually Lu said himself when he made the song it was just an artistic release, somewhat of an explosion of lyrics after he had been touring for so long and not writing. The original hook was gonna be called "Space Traveling" hence the intergallactic gibberish but his A&R made him change the hook. Thusly titled "Dumb it Down". NOW, if you're claiming that you should be impressed by the sheer fact Lupe can throw metaphors in a verse and string them together is cause for greatness I hate to see what your normal life is like. Not all of these cheesy metaphors are gold, sure they might be the same color but its still cheese, and go perfect with his "generic bread" lol. That is what Ian isn't impressed by, yes we get them, we just don't dig them. But you can find meaning in everything in life, but that doesn't make it superfluously greater than another given topic of discussion. Keep on keepin on stan.

3) I thought this was common knowledge. Even Lupe has acknowledged that his verses weren't meant to address the theme, he made them at another time for another song, then the idea came to him for the hook for Dumb It Down, and he just attached the verses to the track. lol @ thinking you guys are intelligent for figuring out the super deepness of that track. 1) There is nothing "Complex" about that song. It's all word play. 1 play on words linking directly to the next, throughout the entire song. 2) Nothing to "Decipher" from Dumb It Down. The chorus is meant to be address Lupe not dumbing things down. And his verse is just a random verse of wordplay that's supposed to be "complex" to some I suppose, but has no direct relation to the theme outside the fact it's just a lyrical maze. But the verses themselves don't discuss anything.

Haha I think you ninja man are lyrically delusional. The reason why you don't understand the song is the whole point in and of itself. He's verses are so complex in that song for a reason. That clearly compliments the hook and message of the entire song. He will not dumb down for people like you.

I'm not avoiding anything. I'm saying his verses have nothing to do with the theme of the song. His verses are just word-play intergalactic gibberish. The only meaning in that song comes from the hooks. The verses are just tacked on. And if you say, you "see" something else in those verses, then either you are Literally delusional, or you're completely full of s***. Cause there is no connection between the verses and the theme of that track.

If you really think Lupe's lyrics directly compliment what the theme of the song or the chorus is, you are sorely mistaken. But I would love love love to see how you make that connection. MJ example is not on point. MJ was great in all aspects, therefore he was a great overall player. Lupe is not great in all aspects, therefore he is not an exceptional overall rapper let alone artist. Yes, a meal from McDonalds. Crappy ass 1 + Crappy ass 2 does not equal Great 3. That's what you're not getting. Dude has diversity, I get it, he can turn a serious situation into a cheesy metaphor, then add some wordplay, a descriptive word or two and whatever the hell else. But you are insinuating that each of his average elements combined = Great. That's like adding -2 to -2 and expecting to get 4.
